On August 9, 2024, we celebrated something incredible at Haven Homes. Thanks to 142 generous donors, we now have a bus to call our own!
For years, we made do without one, borrowing buses from other communities. While we managed, it meant our residents could only enjoy one outing a month. Organizing these trips was complicated and costly, limiting the adventures our residents deserved. The world around them felt smaller than it should have.
But our residents longed for more. More opportunities to get out, explore and enjoy the simple joys of life. Whether it was shopping, taking a ride with friends or staying connected to the community, they wanted to feel a sense of freedom.
Miki, one of our beloved residents, passionately advocated for this cause from the beginning. She said it best: “I absolutely love it here, but since I no longer drive, the only thing I find missing is our own transportation. All we need to complete the perfect picture is our own bus.”
Now, that picture is complete! This isn’t just any bus—it’s a vehicle for connection, adventure and independence. Our residents’ world has expanded once again, with endless possibilities.
Exploring More Together
The doors to a variety of outings and experiences have swung wide open. From running everyday errands to embarking on exciting adventures, our residents now have the freedom to explore. Already, we’ve taken trips to Peppermint Twist in Delano, the Carver County Fair in Waconia and enjoyed a picnic in the park.
When we asked, “Where are you most excited to go when we get a bus?” they joyfully responded with anticipation. The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, local restaurants, grocery stores, Baker Park, the zoo, picnics and fall drives around the lakes all made the list.
Their excitement is contagious, and we can’t wait to make these outings a regular part of life at Haven Homes. We can’t wait to see how much it enhances the fullness of life for our residents.

Grateful for Our Generous Donors
We are so grateful to the 142 generous donors who made this dream a reality for Haven Homes. Together, they raised an astounding $115,958, which allowed us to purchase this beautiful bus, proudly add the Haven Homes name to it and even set aside funds for maintenance.
The support came from all corners of our community:
- 6 business partners and local service organizations
- 19 residents
- 19 dedicated employees
- And many kindhearted family members and neighbors here in Maple Plain
To everyone who contributed—you’ve made a lasting difference in the lives of our residents. This bus is more than just transportation. It symbolizes freedom, connection and the fullness of life we strive to provide at Haven Homes. Your generosity made it all possible.
